Protecting the Environment & RoHS
We have a top-ranking consultant chemist, who works with us to guide us, and to assist in our compliance with the ever-growing field of regulation in this industry.
Chemicals and Waste
Plating Centre, as a metal finishing company is subject to a wide range of environmental restrictions and controls relating to the use and storage of the hazardous chemicals used in our processes and the disposal of waste byproducts produced in these processes. This governs the discharge to air, water and disposal to land, as well as the issues concerning the recycling of both the waste, where possible, and the containers used to distribute the chemicals. We apply strict internal controls to ensure compliance with the requirements of regulatory organisations, as well as accepting regular inspections and audits from both local authorities and our regulatory body. Our newly refurbished and extended premises include a modern water treatment plant/recycling plant and our Local Exhaust Ventilation system is designed to provide a clean, breathable working environment together with responsible controls relating to atmospheric pollution.
Health and Safety
The Health and Safety of our employees is of critical importance to us and we are committed to adhering to our Health and Safety policy. We carry out regular internal Health and Safety audits in addition to an annual review from an external body to ensure that we employ best practice at all times.
Daily production is carried out in strict accordance with chemical handling procedures laid down within our Health and Safety policy. All of our employees are trained in the safe handling of hazardous chemicals and are fully trained in emergency response procedures should there be that requirement.
RoHS & REACH Coatings
RoHS stands for the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
RoHS restrictions are based on hazards – if a substance is potentially hazardous and there are alternatives available, then it may well be banned, or restricted.
These Regulations implement the RoHS Directive which bans the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.
Plating Centre has been one of leaders, locally, in introducing and running the following RoHS compliant coatings as standard available finishes:
We no longer carry any hexavalent chrome products or treatments within the facility.
It is our mission to stay at the front of the drive to create a cleaner and more environmentally responsible industry.
Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) is a European Union regulation dating from 18 December 2006. REACH addresses the production and use of chemical substances, and their potential impacts on both human health and the environment. We work hard to remain compliant at all times.
